Sleep to Dream, Bass Line Station, Ottawa, ON, 6 May 2007, with opening act Nicknameless
I had never heard of this band until I saw them listed on Fibbers Music. For those who may not know Fibbers is the bar in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia that JD Fortune is part owner of now.
Anyway, being interested in JD, and by extension Pictou County, I listened to some of the tracks by the artists listed on the website. Sleep to Dream from Halifax immediately caught my eye. I liked what I heard, and got the Nervous Creatures EP.
They just released their first CD, Breaking the Silence, and did a small tour to support it. My hometown was the last city on the tour, and I went out last night to see them play. They rocked the almost non-existent audience. Towards the end of their set they were playing for me, my sister, the bar staff and the warm up band Nicknameless, and given how good this band is, that's quite sad. But they played like the house was full, and then thanked me for staying to the end to listen to them. They really must put something in the water in Nova Scotia. It reminded me of the stories INXS tells of doing the bar circuit early on in their career.
The Fibbers Music site has links to their Myspace where you can listen to more of their songs. They are doing another tour in early August and hope to go across Canada. I'll keep you posted.
